Read more Create Change Health Provider NetworkSakhi’s Women’s Health Initiative was developed in 1999 as an outreach, education, and prevention program. WHI responds to the growing need for culturally-competent and sensitive health care services for South Asian women facing intimate partner violence and abuse in their lives. Within the WHI, Sakhi has developed the Health Provider Network (HPN) to directly address survivors’ physical and mental health needs. Survivors of domestic violence face many obstacles to seeking health care, including language barriers, high costs, spousal control, and fear of being exposed. Physicians in the HPN show their dedication by working to remove these barriers and equalizing access to healthcare which is otherwise unavailable to many abused South Asian women.
